Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 LS5

The Chevelle is the car that gets the muscle-car formula exactly right: a mid-size body, enough room for four adults, and an engine bay that will swallow anything Chevrolet built. The 1968–72 second generation is the definitive one, with its long hood, short deck and fastback roofline, and the SS package brought a blacked-out grille, domed hood, wide-oval tyres and a badge that meant something. The 396 big-block was the everyday hero; the 454 LS6 of 1970 was rated at 450 hp from the factory and is, by most reckonings, the most powerful engine any American manufacturer put in a regular-production car during the classic era. Cowl-induction hoods, bench or bucket seats, and a Muncie four-speed complete the picture.

This car belongs to Chevrolet's A-body performance line, where a mid-size shell was matched to the largest engines the division built. Engine code, drivetrain originality and documentation matter as much to that lineage as the headline power figure.
