Chevrolet Corvette C1 327

The C1 Corvette is the car that gave America a sports car of its own. When the first Motorama show car was rushed into production in 1953, Chevrolet had no steel-body tooling ready, so the body was moulded in glass-reinforced plastic — a decision made for expedience that ended up defining the Corvette for the next seven decades. Early cars ran the 235 cu in "Blue Flame" straight-six with a two-speed Powerglide, and they were pretty rather than fast. Everything changed in 1955 when Zora Arkus-Duntov pushed the 265 cu in small-block V8 under the hood, and again in 1957 when Ramjet mechanical fuel injection made the Corvette one of the first American production cars to offer one horsepower per cubic inch. The 1958–62 cars brought quad headlights, a proper cockpit with a driver-focused gauge cluster, and by 1962 a 327 cu in V8 making up to 360 hp. Chrome, cove panels, whitewalls and a wraparound windshield make these the most unapologetically 1950s cars Chevrolet ever built.

This car is a final-year C1 Corvette, the last of the chrome-and-cove cars before the Sting Ray arrived.
