Chrysler Imperial 354 Hemi

Imperial was spun off as a standalone marque in 1955 specifically to fight Cadillac and Lincoln, and it was built accordingly — a separate body-on-frame chassis, the heaviest gauge steel Chrysler used, and details found nowhere else in the range. The free-standing "gunsight" tail lamps perched on the rear fenders are the signature, and inside you find push-button drive, power vent windows and an instrument panel that could have come out of an airliner. These were, pound for pound, among the most solidly built American cars of their era — which is precisely why demolition derbies eventually banned them.

This car carries Chrysler's 354 cu in FirePower Hemi in the standalone Imperial marque's own body-on-frame chassis.
