Chrysler New Yorker St. Regis

The New Yorker was Chrysler's flagship for decades, and in the mid-fifties that meant Hemi power under a body that looked like nothing else on the road. These cars combine genuine performance hardware — the FirePower Hemi V8, torsion-bar suspension from 1957, and power everything — with an interior of brocade, chrome and metal-faced instrumentation. They are enormous, they are beautifully made, and they represent the moment when Chrysler's engineering department was arguably the best in Detroit.

This car sits at the top of Chrysler's mid-fifties range, when the division's engineering department was arguably the strongest in Detroit. Factory equipment, trim and originality matter as much to that lineage as the headline power figure.
