Dodge Challenger Convertible

The Challenger arrived in 1970 as Dodge's E-body — sharing its architecture with the Barracuda but stretched two inches longer in the wheelbase to give it a more luxurious cabin and a longer hood. That extra length is what makes it look the way it does: wide, low, and almost aggressively horizontal. Engine choices ran from a sensible slant-six all the way through 340, 383, 440 Six Pack and the 426 Hemi, and the option sheet included a shaker hood, a rear spoiler, a Rallye instrument cluster and Chrysler's High Impact paint palette. It is one of very few cars that manages to be both a genuine muscle car and a comfortable place to spend an afternoon.

This car belongs to Chrysler's E-body line, where Dodge stretched the Barracuda platform two inches for a longer hood and a roomier cabin. Body style, engine code and restoration quality matter as much to that lineage as the headline power figure.
