Dodge Dart GTS 340 Convertible

The Dart was Dodge's sensible compact — and like Chevrolet's Nova, that sensibleness made it dangerous. It was light, its A-body engine bay would accept the 340 cu in small-block, and the GTS and Swinger 340 packages turned an economy car into something that would run with cars costing half again as much. The 1968 Hurst-built 440 and Hemi Darts, produced in tiny numbers strictly for Super Stock drag racing, remain among the most extreme cars any Detroit manufacturer ever released to the public. Clean two-door hardtops with the right drivetrain have appreciated sharply.

This car belongs to Chrysler's A-body line, where a light compact shell could be ordered with the 340 small-block and turned into something far quicker than its price suggested. Body style, engine code and documentation matter as much to that lineage as the headline power figure.
