Oldsmobile 442 400 4-Speed

The 442 name is an equation: four-barrel carburettor, four-speed manual and dual exhausts. It began in 1964 as a police-package option and grew into one of the best-balanced muscle cars of the era, because Oldsmobile engineers cared about how the car went round corners as well as how quickly it left a light. Heavy-duty suspension, a rear anti-roll bar — rare on American cars then — and by 1970 a 455 cu in V8 with a factory rating of 365 hp made it formidable. The W-30 package added a fibreglass ram-air hood, aluminium intake and a red inner fender liner.Founded in 1897, Oldsmobile was one of America’s oldest automobile names and frequently served as a General Motors engineering leader.
