Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Convertible

The Ninety-Eight sat at the very top of Oldsmobile's range, and in the early fifties that meant the Rocket V8 — the overhead-valve engine that arrived in 1949 and is widely credited with starting the American horsepower race outright. Wrapped around it is a full-size body with a panoramic windshield, deep chrome, and an interior trimmed in cloth and brightwork that was genuinely luxurious for its day. These are big, softly-sprung, comfortable cars that make a long drive feel like an event.
