There is no more valuable American muscle car than a 1970–71 Hemi 'Cuda. The E-body Barracuda was finally wide enough in the engine bay to accept Chrysler's 426 cu in hemispherical-head V8, an engine designed for NASCAR and never really tamed for the street, rated at a deliberately understated 425 hp through twin Carter four-barrels on a cross-ram intake. Everything about the car is theatre: the shaker hood that pokes through the bonnet and vibrates with the engine, the Rallye dash, the pistol-grip four-speed, and the High Impact colours with names like Sublime, Vitamin C and Plum Crazy. Chrysler built them for just two model years before insurance premiums and emissions rules ended the programme. This car belongs to Chrysler’s strategy of using several brands and body styles around shared high-performance hardware. Hemi and Six Barrel engines, together with Trans-Am homologation specials, give the most important Plymouth and Dodge models technical as well as cultural significance. This example is finished in Green over Black, fitted with a manual gearbox, showing 3685 mi on the odometer (a displayed reading, not a guarantee of total distance). The dealer's own note on this car: 1 Of 3 Used By Chrysler Of France Racing Division.Stock number PC6069, VIN/chassis BS23R0B376069.
